When to Order Firewood Before Winter

In the Western North Carolina and North Georgia mountains, the best time to order firewood is early to mid fall, ideally September or October, before the first hard freeze. Ordering early gives your wood time to be delivered and stacked well ahead of the cold, and it means you're not scrambling to find a delivery slot once everyone else has had the same idea.

Why Timing Matters in the Mountains

Higher elevations around Scaly Mountain, Highlands, and Cashiers tend to see colder temperatures earlier in the season than the surrounding lowlands. A cabin or home at elevation can go from mild fall weather to needing a fire most nights in a short window. Ordering ahead means you're not caught without wood during that first cold snap.

For most homes, early fall is the sweet spot: warm enough that delivery and stacking are easy, early enough that you're set before you actually need to burn.
